The successful treatment for depression generally calls for the involvement of a professional clinical psychologist.

Diagnosis means undergoing thorough psychological testing and interviews, conducted by a professional and practicing psychologist or practitioner. When a diagnosis is made and it is confirmed that a patient does indeed suffer from depression, the psychologist will now talk to the patient about his or her treatment plan. Part of the treatment plan, more often than not, is going through psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is the backbone of depression treatment.

The goal of psychotherapy is twofold. One aspect is the processing of the underlying cause of the patient’s depression. People do not get depressed for no reason. There are some factors involved. Before the therapist can help the patient process the cause of his or her depression, information is needed. A psychologist will take the following things into account: family background, presenting problem, medical history, and even the patient’s biochemical make-up. Sometimes depression is triggered by a biochemical imbalance in the body. For example, a person diagnosed with a hypothyroid condition may be predisposed to bouts of depression. It is very important to understand a person’s medical history and biochemical make-up in order to make an informed assessment of any psychological conditions he or she may have. Making an informed assessment also includes taking note of the patient’s family history and background.

The other aspect is facilitating the patient’s growth in handling and overcoming the depression. Once the underlying cause of depression has been identified, processed and resolved, the patient must now develop particular attitudes and skills to help him or her hurdle the difficulties of depression. This includes a change, or many changes, in the patient’s lifestyle. It includes changing mental scripts. Patients sometimes need to change the way they think, or their self-talk. This is because patients unconsciously bring themselves down with the way they think about problems, situations, relationships, and themselves. Self-defeating attitudes and behaviors must be abandoned. Proactive, empowered attitudes and behaviors must take their place. This is especially important when the cause of the depression has not been fully resolved. The patient must be equipped with the necessary skills to handle future bouts of depression. This gives him or her a very good chance of resolving, once and for all, the cause of the depression.

The treatment of depression can help a patient succeed in living a better life. Treatment can lead to improved psychological well-being, and enable a person who is suffering from this disorder to effectively deal with future problems and challenges.

I was a late bloomer when it comes to drinking coffee. I started drinking coffee when I was in my late 20s and I have not stopped since. I enjoyed a cup of flavored coffee every day, hot or cold, Latte or Frappucino. But ever since I started living a healthier lifestyle, I had to make a list of healthy vs. unhealthy “food inventory.” Unfortunately, hard as I try to justify the health benefits of keeping my flavored coffee on my healthy list, there were none. The good news is I haven’t completely turned my back on my love for coffee. No, it was not that easy. However, I had to choose a healthy alternative; I have chosen to give up my flavored Macchiato and replaced it with regular coffee instead, with a little bit of cream on the side.

It’s been almost three years now since I stopped enjoying flavored coffees on a daily basis. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy it from time to time as a special treat. A good cup of regular coffee and cream now makes my day. The main reason I had to give up my flavored coffee was because of the calories. It is not hard to give up the calories, but, I don’t think I am ready just yet to give up coffee. Here’s why:

1. It gives me increased mental alertness. Either I get a kick out of the caffeine or it’s completely psychological, but something about a cup of coffee that makes my day. I become more awake, alert and mentally focus, thus, improving my overall mood. Again, it could all be just psychological, but it works for me.

2. It speeds up my metabolism. Personally, it works for me and my metabolism and I think I am not alone on this one. There have been several articles written about how coffee (caffeine) acts as a diuretic and/or laxative. It really does, and because I feel lighter, I also feel more energized.

3. I am hoping to reap the potential health benefits of drinking coffee. Coffee is not bad if taken into moderation. There will always be a discussion over the good and bad health benefits of drinking coffee. But, judging from what I have read about the health benefits of drinking coffee so far; it looks to me that the benefits currently outweigh the risks.

Go ahead; enjoy a cup of regular coffee today or a cup of flavored coffee once in a while. But always remember to drink it in moderation.

To your wellness!

The Tom Collins cocktail is one of the most famous drinks and many people assume it was named after a real person. There is actually a great deal of debate about whether a real Tom Collins ever lent his name to the drink and one popular story says the drink was named after John Collins, a head waiter at a hotel in the early 1800′s. The story goes that the name was changed to a Tom Collins after a sweetened gin called Old Tom was substituted for the dry gin originally used.

The more likely origin of the drink, however, involves the Great Tom Collins Hoax of 1874, in which people would begin a conversation with, “Have you seen Tom Collins?” and fool unsuspecting people into believing a fictional Tom Collins was spreading rumors and lies about them. The hoax was even spread by many newspapers of the time who printed stories with false sightings of the fictional Tom Collins.

The traditional Tom Collins is created with gin, sugar, carbonated water and lemon juice, all of which are available at any Miami Beach liquor store. It was first recorded in writing by Jerry Thomas, who described it as a gin and sparkling lemonade drink. The drink gained popularity quickly and was served in bars throughout New York City by 1878.

An 1891 recipe includes the following ingredients: juice of half a lemon in a large glass, a bar-spoonful of sugar, a drink of Tom gin, 2 lumps of ice and a bottle of plain soda. The modern recipe, however, includes 2 ounces of dry gin, 2 ounces of lemon juice, 1 teaspoon of sugar syrup, soda water, a slice of lemon and a cherry for garnish, served over ice. No matter where the drink started, it’s a fixture in the cocktail culture and is available in many liquor stores as a pre-mixed drink as well.

When trying to make a list of the most-anticipated films of any year, fall releases usually come into play. All of the serious award-contending movies come out in the fall. Films that are thought to be Oscar-worthy are released late in the year so they will stay fresh in the minds of voters who don’t begin nominations until early the next year.

In 2012, there will be plenty of these serious fall movies, but none of them are as anticipated as the slate of summer movies on tap. Usually, summer movies are thought to be nothing but mindless action films with little or no plot. Unlike the fall films, these “popcorn movies” are meant to entertain but not to make the audience think or reflect much. This is especially true of past superhero movies, which were often devoid of much plot in favor of action.

Christopher Nolan’s serious, well-scripted take on the Batman franchise changed all of that. Suddenly, superhero films were expected to be just as good as the award-winning fare released later in the year. He raised the bar, and the crop of 2012 superhero films has risen to meet it. This is why superhero films mark the most-anticipated films of the year.

Nolan’s final entry in the Batman franchise is easily one of the most-anticipated films of 2012. “The Dark Knight Rises” has been in production for more than two years, with fans of the Caped Crusader hanging on every public information leak. The announcement of who had been cast as Catwoman and the villain Bane was hotly debated among comic book geeks and more casual fans alike.

The film picks up where the 2008 movie “The Dark Knight” left off, with Batman in exile and taking the fall for things that were not his fault. This is the second sequel in the series, which started in 2005 with “Batman Begins.” Christian Bale returns as Bruce Wayne/Batman; most of the core cast, including Gary Oldman, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman, also reprise their roles.

Another superhero created by DC Comics is also the subject of an eagerly anticipated summer release. “Man of Steel” will reboot the series of films that ended with the disappointing “Superman Returns” in 2006. Fans of Superman have been waiting for this film because they hope it will erase the bad taste that the Bryan Singer-produced 2006 film left in their mouths. Christopher Nolan, who is also at the helm of the “The Dark Knight Rises,” is a coproducer of this film.

It is directed by Zack Snyder, who burst onto the movie scene with “300,” which was a surprise sleeper hit in 2007. The visually stunning look of that film has made fans wonder if the same style will be used for the Superman film. Production details have been kept tightly under wraps, and very little information about the film has been released, which only adds to the anticipation that fans are feeling.

DC Comics rival Marvel Comics also has a big franchise film coming out this summer; however, this is the beginning of a new franchise. Instead of reboots like the Batman and Superman series, “The Avengers” is the first entry in what is sure to be a very successful series of films.

Unlike the offerings of DC Comics, “The Avengers” features more than one superhero in the movie. In fact, there are a total of six heroes: The Hulk, Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor, Captain America and Hawkeye. Each of them has been featured as either the main character or in a supporting role in previous movies made by Marvel Studios. Each of these releases had a sneak peek providing clues about the next movie following the end credits. At the end of the 2011 film “Captain America: The First Avenger,” the audience was treated to an interaction between Captain America and Nick Fury, who is trying to get the Avengers Initiative off the ground.

Accommodating so many big personalities on the same screen is a huge undertaking, but director Joss Whedon is up to the task. He is a professed comic book geek who genuinely loves these characters and is not afraid to tackle an ensemble cast.

If any of these movies are even half as successful as pundits believe, 2012 might just shape up to be the year of the superhero. Add in “The Amazing Spider-Man,” which will also be released in the summer, and audiences will have more on-screen comic book characters to choose from than ever before.

Meanwhile, Usher gave Bieber props for his flowing skills. “He’s always been a dope MC. C’mon. Easy. ‘Boyfriend’ was really the defining moment; it became No. 1 everywhere, which is what dreams are made of. Both of us are being modest about what our journeys have been in terms of songwriting: Justin really has participated in every writing session -that’s amazing. It’s easy to just dial something in, but if you make the music authentic, people feel connected to you as an artist from the beginning.”

And Justin returned the favor, sharing that he’s really benefitted from Usher’s mentoring. “What’s great is that in Usher, I have a mentor that’s been doing it so long and has been successful in everything that he’s done. He’s made some mistakes, too, but he’s learned from them, so he can tell me what to do and what not to do.”

Both Usher and Justin will be performing at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards.

Dropping a brand new track just in time for the Mother’s Day weekend, Justin Bieber has debuted his latest single “Turn To You”.

In the emotionally charged song, the Canadian hitmaker utilizes a mild beat while belting out heartfelt lyrics in which he professes his profound love for his mom.

Among the lyrics, Justin recalls how hard his beloved mother worked to provide for him after giving birth at a young age.

The 19-year-old superstar sings out in the tune, “You worked two jobs to keep a roof up over our heads/ You chose life for me, no you never gave up/ I admire you for the strength you instilled in me/ You were so young, you were just my age when you had me/ Mom, you were so brave, there was nothing that would stop or get in our way/ And I know you will always be there for me.”

Continuing to give thanks for how she helped him become the giant success in which he is today, Bieber’s new song “Turn To You” is extra-special in the fact that proceeds from purchases are being directed to single moms in need.

Of the charitable plan, Justin tweeted, “Think im gonna release #TurnToYOU for my mom this friday for mother’s day weekend. the proceeds will go to help other single moms. Thanks”

The Mother’s Day weekend release comes as Bieber is readying for the debut of his new studio album “Believe” – which will be made available in the U.S. beginning June 19th.

Nothing looks more professional that a garden bed that is properly edged. Even the worse yard on the block will look remarkably improved once garden edging is installed. Thankfully changing the curb appeal of a house doesn’t have to cost a lot thanks to the many edging choices. Even though there are many edging options, some are more appealing than others. This is partially because not all edging for gardens are intended for every garden bed.

While beds that shadow and line the front of the house can support a variety of edging materials, garden beds that line driveways or the street may require garden concrete edging instead. Concrete edging is much more stable not to mention that it lasts a long time. This is especially helpful in climates with extreme conditions including excessive amounts of freezing temperatures, high humidity or a lot of rain. Other materials may work, but concrete is by far the best.

Although concrete is a popular choice for those looking for a long lasting and sturdy material, concrete can look rather plain and out of place as opposed to the polished look that so many are after when they use edging. In these instances wooden and rock edging provide a more organic, natural look that many homeowners desire. While these options meet the initial needs of a client, wooden edging fades, splinters and eventually breaks down. Rock edging lasts longer than wood; however, it looks ragged if not properly maintained.

One reason for the deterioration of the wood is that treated lumber is not advisable for garden beds with edible plants since the chemicals used to treat the wood actually leech into the ground. Just as wooden edging has its issues so does rock edging. While rock looks better, they are so jagged that they are difficult to mow around and maintain. Which is why concrete is ultimately the best option. So while it might not be the first choice, it certainly will be the final choice.

If you are one of those people who grew up not sure if you’d ever want kids, and now you find yourself married to the perfect spouse and thinking children might be in your not-so-distant future, you are not alone. If you are worried that having these kids will ruin your marriage, you are not alone, either. While it will take some work, and while it will certainly change your life, having a baby doesn’t have to ruin your marriage. You just have to get a little creative about how you think of spending time together, and you have to make the most of the time you have.

After Bedtime

Remember when you were a little kid and you used to complain about having to go to bed earlier than all of the adults? There was a reason your mom and dad made you go to sleep earlier than they did. They use the after-bedtime hours as adult time. This is the time for moms and dads to watch what they want on television, or to watch a movie not suitable for children. You might be exhausted when you put your kids to sleep, but enforcing a strict bedtime is good for the child and the parents. It gives the child a sense of routine, and a good night’s sleep, while it gives the parents some quality time together in the comfort of their own home.

Hire a Babysitter

Some parents may be wary of hiring a babysitter who is not a family member, but sometimes it is necessary if you ever want to get out of the house with just the two of you. Find someone you trust by asking a trusted neighbor or by consulting online babysitting and nanny searches. These internet babysitting profiles often run background checks and allow you to interview people before hiring them, which can put your mind at ease. Hiring a babysitter can really add up, though, from a cost standpoint. If hiring a babysitter is too expensive, see if you can trade off nights with the parents of your child’s friends. You take all the kids for a night one week, and then the next week, the other parents take their turn. This can be beneficial for everyone involved, because it allows you to spend less money while still being able to have someone you trust watch your kids, and your kids get to play with their friends every week.

Schedule Date Night

Those mommy calendars are no joke. When you have little kids running around, you need to schedule every minute of every day. Before kids, you probably had spontaneous date nights all of the time, but after kids, this can be much harder than it used to be. There is no shame in scheduling a date night. Put it on the calendar, and make sure everyone knows that you and your spouse are going out of town for a night, or maybe just dinner. It doesn’t matter what you do; what matters is that you do it alone.

Family Cuddle Time

While it’s definitely not the same as spending time alone, having quality family time every night is important for everyone. When you spend time with your kids, talking to them and sharing stories about your days and being excited about each others projects, this can foster a sense of companionship among the family. Even if you don’t feel like talking one day, pick a favorite movie or television show and cuddle up each other with a great blanket. You’ll feel great having spent quality time together with your family.

When it comes to moving a business delegation around London, there is no better means of transport than corporate coach hire for ensuring they get where you want them to be when you want them to be there.

A coach is the perfect vehicle for any large group, though the advantages for business travel extend well beyond convenience. With London traffic and the wealth of traffic lights, the biggest plus for a business delegation is that you are all in the same vehicle. Trying to get a dozen people to a different location in regular four or five-seat cars could result in different vehicles arriving at different times. Your delegates may arrive before you or half of your delegation may be significantly delayed, leaving the half that managed to arrive first waiting for some considerable time. Removing the risk of this kind of delay makes planning your day considerably simpler.

The added bonus, for business delegations, is the ability to discuss your business together in what amounts to a very comfortable mobile conference room. The plusher coaches now feature everything from tables and toilet facilities to wireless internet and a TV, all of which can be used to make the most of what would otherwise be wasted time.

When a person is looking for consolidation loans they will need to speak with a debt relief company to assist them with getting these loans in place. The reason that a person needs to consolidate their debts is to make them more manageable. Debtors who have too many bills at a variety of places might become overextended which is why consolidation becomes a necessity.

In order to find these debt relief companies a person should go online and make a list of all them. Once this list has been created it is now time to contact these firms and find out how much they are charging for their services. This is a very critical question since the price has to make sense otherwise a consumer would be taken on too much additional debt.

Before making the decision to hire any of these companies ask them for testimonials from clients who have used their services in the past and are happy with the results that have been produced. These are the most effective ways in which a person can get control of their debts with a professional debt relief company. Ensure that whoever is selected is licensed to offer these services. The reason that these firms need to be licensed is to be sure they are able to handle all of the challenges that might arise.
